Note: Our goal is the regulation of housing units utilized exclusively for short-term vacation rentals. We fully support the ability of San Diego residents to utilize space in their primary residence for short-term vacation rentals.

San Diego is the Eighth most expensive Area to live in the US

In the past five years, rent has increased 24.5%,

adding $506 per month to San Diegans’ cost of living.

There are over 5,700 housing units that are now whole-home Vacation REntals

Without any long-term residents living onsite..

Neighborhoods are heavily impacted

Neighborhoods with far more vacation rentals than the city cap have seen rent skyrocket. This causes a ripple effect in surrounding neighborhoods as tenants are forced to search for new housing

1,251 Vacation rentals Are Apartment-Hotels

They were previously naturally-occurring affordable housing - studios and one-bedroom apartments - that are now year-round short-term vacation rental units.

In San Diego City:

84%

of vacation rentals are rented more than 90 days per year

28%

of whole-home vacation rentals are held by corporate owners

5%

of owners operate 30% of whole-home vacation rentals
