Housing for San Diegans is proud to announce that our two endorsed candidates for City Council, Nicole Crosby and Antonio Martinez, have advanced to the general election in their respective San Diego City Council races.
Nicole Crosby and Antonio Martinez both openly campaign on a platform of limiting and regulating short-term vacation rentals.
According to Nicole Crosby, “We need to push out outside interests. We need to make this a home for people and seniors, and working families and children can live here and go to our schools.”
In 2018 Antonio Martinez stated, “...when it comes to the perspective of having a corporation essentially buying neighborhoods, and changing communities into mini-hotels, I mean, I hope that one day I can be a first-time homeowner, and buying my home…". Antonio continues to publicly oppose corporate conversion of long-term housing to Airbnb motels.
The candidates rated “unacceptable” by Housing for San Diegans did not advance out of the primary election, despite massive spending by special-interest groups, like Airbnb, to advance these candidates.
We believe these results validate that voters in San Diego want councilmembers who will limit and regulate short-term vacation rentals, and that voters are tired of the short-term vacation rental industry's attempts to buy council seats and support.
We will continue to support candidates willing to stand up to Airbnb and other special-interest groups eliminating housing in our communities in the general election.
We invite you to join us in supporting Housing for San Diegans.
